Get to Know Emilie

End of the KT82 Relay Race – I somehow managed a smile despite starting our day at 4am.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give to your 21-year old self?

Be present in the moment. At 21, I was nearing the end of my college career and I had no idea what I was going to do next. With my majors, I could only see two paths forward – teaching or going into academia, but I didn’t want to do either of those. I took the GRE, the LSAT and the Praxis, and applied to an AmeriCorps program to cover all my bases. Ultimately, I ended up in the AmeriCorps to fulfill one of my passions (mentoring) while simultaneously giving me space to think about my next steps. We get so caught up in “what’s next”. I’m constantly reminding myself to take a few breaths and be present. I am able to find clarity when I take the time to do so.

If you weren’t in your current job, what would be your dream job?

My dream job would be a national geographic photographer. There is so much to see in the world, and I’d love to capture it. Plus getting paid to go on adventures sounds pretty great to me!

List one show you “binge-watched” recently and what was it about the show that captivated your attention?

The Morning Show. The acting and writing were phenomenal. I never thought I would hate any character played by Steve Carrell, but here we are.
