Get to Know Emillie

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?

Be present in the moment. At 21, I was nearing the end of my college career and I had no idea what I was going to do next. With my majors, I could only see two paths forward – teaching or going into academia, but I didn’t want to do either of those. I took the GRE, the LSAT, and the Praxis and applied to an AmeriCorps program to cover all my bases. Ultimately, I ended up in AmeriCorps to fulfill one of my passions (mentoring) while simultaneously giving me space to think about my next steps. We get so caught up in “what’s next”. I’m constantly reminding myself to take a few breaths and be present. I am able to find clarity when I take the time to do so.

If you weren’t in your current job, what would be your dream job?

My dream job would be a national geographic photographer. There is so much to see in the world, and I’d love to capture it. Plus getting paid to go on adventures sounds pretty great to me!

What is your one social media “guilty pleasure?”

I don’t believe in guilty pleasures, but I would have to say TikTok. It’s such an easy way to consume information and entertainment and has sparked new interests.
